Artistic Vision
Blue Hug Theatre Company is committed to introducing and promoting international voices within the UK theatre scene.
We believe that through experiencing international writing, people can widen their horizons beyond a purely UK-centric world view.
This is something that we believe to be important in a society which draws on increasingly diverse cultural influences.
Blue Hug is committed to accessibility, inclusion and diversity.
We recognise cultural diversity as a fundamental and positive component of the lives of both the company and of our audiences.
We believe it is necessary to challenge exclusion, whatever its basis: Blue Hug believe that an individual should not be prevented by gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality, age, disability, impairment, or any other factor, from taking part, as audience or performer, in the living experience of theatre.
We recognise that some groups and communities perceive barriers to their participation in theatre, or are convinced that theatre is "not for them." Often this perception is based on a long history of exclusion, or a lack of work which speaks directly to their experiences. We believe it is important to convince people that theatre can be for them. We are committed to achieving this through use of less formal theatrical structures, like workshops and outreach programmes, which break down the perceived hierarchy between artists and audiences, and through creating work which relates to a diverse range of experiences.
